375635 2005-07-26 13:22:00 i am just wondering what is the diference between sata & ide hard drives, is one beta than the other or does one require diiferen plugs or something
thanks in advance

375636 2005-07-26 13:33:00 they do require diffrent plugs.

SATA can be a bit faster, SATA is supported on most new motherboards.

375637 2005-07-26 19:28:00 s-ATA drives also have narrow cables unlike the wide ribbons that IDE drives have. This can be beneficial for keeping your case interior tidy and for improving airflow. Apart from the data cable having a different plug, the power cable also will require an adapater for the standard 4-pin molex unless your power supply unit already has s-ATA specific plugs. :) Jen (38)

What I have found with this is the IDE cables could be folded and therefore tucked in nice and tidy. Where do you put an sATA cable? Not a good idea to bend them, and also the connectors are fairly sloppy, very easy for it to come loose while you are messing about trying to tidy it up. I don't like it just sitting there - not a tidy look.
Anyone sussed how to neatly arrange them?

375639 2005-07-26 22:04:00 If you dont like the sata cable in the case, then get a pci bracket, and plug it from the outside. Or dont use sata. Get a USB 2 enclosure, and plug it into a USB 2 port. Speedy Gonzales (78)

correction...the INTERFACE is faster. however the actuall hardrive speed will have very little improvement between sata and ide.

don't forget actual hardrive speed is barly over 66 so ata100 has still got heaps of head room.

Even worse. Its not that I don't like it as such, just haven't found a good way of tidying them.

375644 2005-07-27 07:28:00 Well it depends on how many hdds u have .

If u have 4+, its better to have them outside using USB2 .

They wouldnt create so much heat . And some are stackable . So, you wouldnt see anything anyway .
