| 375591 | 2005-07-26 12:39:00 | I sent an email to a client with a word document attached, and he emailed me back saying it could not be opened. I went to see him and found all office attachments sent to him via email had their extensions changed to include .ap after the real extension. For example, a word document named word.doc arrives as word.doc.ap and an excel document named spreadsheet.xls arrives as spreadsheet.xls.ap Removing the .ap extension is all that's required to open, edit and send the files on, but what a chore - to have to do this for almost every file that's sent to him.He told me this happens no matter who sends him a file. He works with some really sensitive information, so his system security is always right up to date, and he keeps his system really clean. His antivirus scanner does not identify any malicious code and a few of my favorite utilities show nothing has been tampered with, at least as far as spyware is concerned, but I can not for the life of me find out why all MS office attachments come through with the .ap extension added. I zipped the file and sent it to him, and the zip file does not get the .ap extension added and can easily be unzipped and edited. Does anybody have a clue as to what's going on here, and how to fix it? Your help greatly appreciated. |
