2005-07-26 09:09:00 | I have a freezing problem. Ill be working with any program doing whatever, when the computer just freezes and nothing will function. I can be just moving the mouse and it suddenly stops, or typing and the words stop appearing on the screen, on one occasion when playing Free Cell I ended up with a card stopped in full flight between the main playing area and a vacant cell. When this happens the only way to get the computer working again is to hit the reset button. Neither the Esc key nor Ctrl-Alt-Del has any effect. While frozen the display remains on the monitor, and the cooling fans still operate. The problem can occur several times a day, or not for several days. On occasions pressing the reset button will not restart the computer, on these occasions I have to pull the power plug then replace it and reboot using the power button. After doing this it will often operate faultlessly for up to two weeks. The problem has been happening for several months, and the machine is about a year old. I have installed the latest BIOS and am fully up to date with all windows updates. Machine details are; Asus P4VP-MX mother board, Celeron 2.4 gig processor, 512 Meg RAM, twin HDDs. My suspicions are that either the power supply or the power switch are at fault. Has anyone any ideas?

2005-07-26 09:22:00 | Those sorts of symptoms can be attributed to faulty RAM. Do you have 2x 256 sticks of RAM or a single stick? You can try removing one stick of RAM and see what happens or run a memory tester. If your problem is intermittent then that can make diagnosing the problem a bit harder. Oh, and Welcome to PressF1 :)

2005-07-27 04:50:00 | That log looks clean. Might be a hardware/driver prob. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2005-07-27 04:56:00 | Thanks. What do you think of JEN's RAM suggestion? | Johnt (8602) | |
2005-07-27 05:04:00 | Jen's RAM suggestion should be investigated. Borrow a stick and see if it makes any difference. | FoxyMX (5) | |
2005-07-27 05:06:00 | It maybe the ram or a driver. Did u install some driver/software/hardware recently? Besides the BIOS update. Is the keyboard and mouse USB or PS/2?

2005-07-27 06:02:00 | Have thought about this: A typewriter is a well proven method for those with hard to read writing. I hear that NZ Post has a good reputation of delivering mail these days. A photo album can store a lot of photos. A pack of cards can be used between two or more people. The New Zealand delivers daily news and reviews. The telephone has enabled many people to talk to each other, without the delay of posted letters. You can get your bank account balance over the telephone or at one of those ATM machines (found on every street corner).
