2005-07-25 10:11:00 | was asking the other day about getting a 2nd machine, something quite basic that is just for the missus to use, (XP, browse the internet and do basic MS Office stuff) anyway she wants a flatscreen, sooo does the following deal sound alright to you? Dell GX150, intel celeron 1000mhz, 512Mb RAM, 20Gb HDD, CDROM, all the other standard stuff AND a 15" Dell LCD (1503FP) and delivery = $500 they're refurbished and come with a 98se license, although im likely to be rebuilding it totally... so does that sound ok to you?

2005-07-25 10:50:00 | Should push XP along fine, as long as the HD isn't making any funny noises and the screen is free from defects (light or dark areas, stuck pixels) then it should be good to go. | Metla (12) | |
2005-07-25 11:04:00 | Should run XP fine. | Elephant (599) | |
2005-07-25 11:18:00 | maybe slam in a bigger hdd, 20gb isnt really that much these days. but it should do the job for now  | Prescott (11) | |
2005-07-25 11:23:00 | got 200gb on this one and plan on sharing part of it for her files so not too worried about hdd space, as long as the network works. so the price is decent then?

2005-07-25 21:26:00 | Are you going to install XP over 98SE? If so, there could be problems, unless you reformat and start fresh. Or maybe you mean you will keep 98SE and run Office XP? If so, this can slow the system down, as happened to me a few years ago; better to stick with an old version of Office, or go Open Office Org. 20 Gb is fine for normal email and browsing, and even for digital photos unless lots of movie clips are added from the digcam.
