| 376370 | 2005-07-28 10:23:00 | Hi guys, My friend asked me to help him check his configuration for a gaming pc he would like to purchase. I was wondering if you guys could give your opinion about this also (seeing as its a big purchase). Are there any compatibility issues with the current configuration? The specification are as follows: ANTEC SUPER LANBOY, MID TOWER, SIDE WINDOW, ALUMINIUM - $223.60 DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-D, SOCKET 939, DDR, NVIDIA, - $372.39 AMD ATHLON 64 3500+. 2.2GHz. SOCKET 939, RETAIL PACKAGE - $497.70 SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.7, 160GB, 7,200rpm, 8MB, ATA - $163.99 SAMSUNG TS-H552U. DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER. DVD 16R/16W/4RW, CD 48R/40W/32RW - $97.45 Kingston Dual Channel Memory Kit, 2x512MB, DDR-SDRAM, DIMM, DDR400, HyperX - $321.74 MSI NX6800GT-T2D256E video card, 256MB DDR3, GeForce 6800 GT, PCIe-16, TV Out, DVI - $704.14 LOGITECH ACCESS KEYBOARD, PS/2 - $47.99 Philips 170B6CS, 17" monitor, TFT LCD, 1280x1024, DVI, Speakers, Silver - $479.32 MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME SP2, OEM, (WITH PC PURCHASE) - $163.99 Enermax EG495P-SFMA24P, NoiseTaker, 485W ATX PSU - $156.50 TOTAL INCL GST - $3,228.81 NB - prices are from Ascent (only used to give an idea of the expected price, may or may not purchase from Ascent) My friend wants a pc that can play the lastest games ie. World of Warcraft, DOOM 3, Halflife 2 etc. with fairly high settings. I'm not too sure whether its justifiable to spend so much on a computer system though. Do you guys think its neccessary to spend so much for a gaming pc? If you think there is another configuration that will better suit his needs (performance and price wise) please feel free to comment. I found a comment from Metla in this thread (www.pressf1.co.nz). Is it actually necessary to get an SLI capable motherboard or should I tell my friend to save some money and just get the "DFI nF4 Ultra" instead? Thanks alot guys Michael Y |

| 376371 | 2005-07-28 11:19:00 | Looks good :) What about a: sound card? modem of some kind? mouse? Change the harddrive to a seagate sata with NCQ . If you demand the best game and you want the game to perform at its best then the game will demand the best components as well . It all depends on how much $$ you want to spend at the end of the day . |

| 376372 | 2005-07-28 11:36:00 | He plans to use his existing mouse and I think he should be using ADSL so internal modem for ADSL is not preferred by him . The current price is already pushing his budget a bit . He's hoping to get a system for $3000 more or less . Adding in a soundcard might add up to much $$$ . I think he's planning on gaming with headphones . He doesn't seem to mind the sound quality of the onboard too much . Would there be much of a performance boost for his games if soundcard is added? Thanks |

| 376374 | 2005-07-29 05:21:00 | Check out www . pricespy . co . nz for computer components prices . It will give you an idea of prices and you may find a component cheaper there . Soundcard, most gamers have them as most believe it sounds better then the motherboard sound . ;) Alot of gamers use the Audigy 2 zs soundcard made by Creative . On pricespy its selling at $135 . 00 . You can leave the soundcard and get it later if you wanted to save some money you may be happy with the onboard sound for the moment, its up to you . . :2cents: |
