| 375929 | 2005-07-27 08:12:00 | Hi, for some reason my display settings won't let me go above 640x480 resolution, but a week ago they did, and it was happily at 800x600 (or 1024x768 if i wanted to). I can choose any color depth i want from 16 colors to 32-bit colour but i can't change the resolution, which is weird. 733mhz pentium 3 asus cusi-m m-board 256mb sdram (254 effective) pci geforce mx4000 64mb (77.72 nvidia drivers) 40gb hdd windows me Windows still detects the onboard video card even though i changed the setting in bios from onboard to pci. The onboard card still insists on using some of the main ram so i put it down to the minimum of 2mb. Doesn't matter whether i disable this in device manager or not. I've tried 3 different drivers for the mx4000: the original cd drivers, 66.94 drivers and the latest 77.72 drivers and none of them let me change to resolution above 640x480. Each time i uninstalled the drivers and changed the display to the standard display so i could install different drivers. I even used driver cleaner to remove all traces of any old drivers remaining (www.drivercleaner.net). Another problem is that when i right click on the nview tray icon on the windows taskbar it takes about 50 seconds to respond, as well as any changes i make using the icon. I replaced the rundll32.exe with the original off of the windows me cd to make sure that wasn't the problem, but it still takes ages. Also, in display properties under settings, there are 2 version of mx4000/with the monitor listed for spanning screens etc....but i'd like to disable this. The weird thing is, the 2nd version for another monitor if i connected it allows me to set the resolution up to 1280x1024 or whatever. I know it's not a problem to do with the monitor as 1 week ago it was running finr 800x600 and even with the onboard it could run at that resolution. Thanks a lot in advance. |

| 375930 | 2005-07-27 08:41:00 | Disable the onboard videocard in the BIOS, if you're using another videocard in another slot. You have to disable the onboard in the BIOS, then Windows wont detect it / install drivers for it. I would also uninstall all previous Nvidia drivers. 77.72 are buggy and make colours go funny. 77.76 are the the latest (but beta drivers), but fix the probs the 77.72 drivers had. |

Thanks for your reply, but i can't acutally disable the onboard video through bios properly . There are no options to disable this through jumpers on the motherboard either . The only option in bios is to change the Primary VGA BIOS, which i changed from onboard to pci . The thing about the drivers is though, that a week ago all the versions of the drivers allowed me to put whatever resolution i want, so changing to even later drivers won't help if the old ones worked until recently . So i think it's not the actual drivers but something else in the system that won't let me change the resolution . Usually if there is a display adapter problem, then windows will fall back on 640x480 and 256 colors i think, so its confusing that i can still select any color depth i want . Thanks a lot for helping though . |

| 375932 | 2005-07-27 09:06:00 | ok . Altho I've had 2 videocards in this, BUT neither are onboard . I had to uninstall the drivers (all drivers) for the videocard . Reboot . Install the latest drivers, shut down the system . Then install BOTH cards, then turn the system back on . Then XP detected both and installed the drivers, and they worked fine . Is the onboard videocard Nvidia based as well? |

The onboard videocard is an sis 630e, basically it sucks . Thanks for the help! |

| 375934 | 2005-07-27 11:04:00 | OK I see what u mean. I just had a look at the manual! Umm, you could either disable the onboard in the device manager (dbl click on its entry), so Windows wont detect it. Or you could try installing the driver for it from here dlsvr01.asus.com I would give u the site, BUT its a PITA trying to select the model of the mobo so it'll stick! This is from the official ASUS site. These drivers, by the looks of it are the latest / last version of the videocard drivers, for your mobo / videocard. Coz the Nvidia drivers, wont install the info required for the onboard video, since its a completely different chipset. |

| 375935 | 2005-07-27 11:54:00 | Also check what monitor it is reporting. If a standard VGA, this will limit what resolutions you can obtain. | pheonix (36) | ||
| 375936 | 2005-07-27 16:35:00 | I've already got the latest drivers for anything motherboard based and have flashed the bios with the latest version as well (did this about a year ago as they don't update anything for such an old m/board ). As for the monitor, it makes no difference, i'm using the exact drivers for the model i have (15" digital corp. crt). I tried changing the monitor driver but it makes no difference, same result, can't change resolution. I've been using the same monitor and drivers for it for a while so theres no problem there. I just don't know what is causing this problem!!!!! As well as the nview problem and the dual-display one, lol! It may be a bit OTT but heres the displaylog section of Everest. --------[ EVEREST Home Edition (c) 2003-2005 Lavalys, Inc. ]------------------------------------------------------------ Version EVEREST v2.01.347 Homepage http://www.lavalys.com/ Report Type Quick Report Computer ***** Generator ****** Operating System Microsoft Windows ME 4.90.3000 (WinMe Retail) Date 2005-07-28 Time 03:50 --------[ Windows Video ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 ] Video Adapter Properties: Device Description NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 Installed Drivers nvdisp.drv Video Adapter Manufacturer: Company Name NVIDIA Corporation Product Information www.nvidia.com Driver Download www.nvidia.com [ SiS 630/730 ] Video Adapter Properties: Device Description SiS 630/730 Chip Type 630 DAC Type Internal Installed Drivers sis630m.drv Memory Size 2 MB Video Adapter Manufacturer: Company Name Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation Product Information www.sis.com Driver Download http://download.sis.com Problems & Suggestions: Problem Less than 4 MB video memory found.
