2005-07-28 20:18:00 | tail /var/log/messages ? I've sent a copy via PM to you. From what i can work out, its mainly going on and on about an error with a comunication between me and another telstra owned address. possibly evolution failing to retrieve my @paradise email. (pop.paradise has been doing that a bit recently, i don't think the problems here.)

2005-07-28 21:18:00 | Im trying to think of where to go to from here. Another mail client perhaps? No, that'd defeat the purpose :-/ Try running kmail from a konsole and see what happens :)

2005-07-28 21:40:00 | What i'm thinking might work well is to reformat "/" reinstall everything again, and this time create a fresh new /home/personthingy and move my mail and other select files into it. This way i could avoid the "Poison Kmail by trying to run Clam" setting from being imported, or activated. Of course i'm assuming that trying to run Clam is whats doing the damage. This seems likely, but i can't yet be sure. In the interests of talking myself into it, a clean up is well overdue, and what better way than to move? :badpc:

2005-07-29 09:42:00 | oops . . . got called to work, but now i have a chance to get back to the machine now before i go to work again . OK . . this is an interesting one . I formatted the system, except /home . I then created a new user and started updates and stuff . I installed evolution, Kmail was happy and ran, allthough it was an earlier version than what i was used to . I imported my mail directory for Kmail taking care to change ownership of all files etc . Kmail was happy . I installed Knewsticker, updated Kmail (apt-get install kmail) I then ran Kmail, and it fell over, permanantly . So either updating Kmail is a bad move, or installing knewsticker is . I had installed knewsticker just before all this started, but made no connection . OK, i'm off to work in half an hour, and it looks like i'm tearing it all down and building it all up again, just for fun, later on in the weekend, if i get time .

2005-07-29 15:27:00 | Well dont i feel like a right twit . Kmail works . Somewhere in the updating process Kontact appeared, Kmail got embedded into Kontact and nolonger works as a stand alone . I only discovered it by looking at the buttons in the template made "personthingy" desktop . Clicked kontact, and saw the graphic display of the mail folder i copied over . Perhaps that's what Segmentation fault means? O well, the tidyup has now begun, may as well keep going . So i'm back, fully functional, and deleting all shortcuts to open Kmail . Yippy!
