| 376348 | 2005-07-28 08:52:00 | Welcome LRK. Put the cd in the cdrom, reboot, then go into the BIOS. Change the bootdisk to cd and save. Leave the cd in and when a message comes up to press any key. Press a key, and it'll go to the XP setup screen, wait for it to finish installing XP. (The first time it reboots, DON'T press any / a key again). It'll continue installing XP. Once it finishes take the cd out (once it boots into Windows). |

No reason why it will be any dodgier than if the install was legal, it's exactly the same installation (apart from serial) If the machine is running ok there's no reason to format |

| 376352 | 2005-07-28 11:28:00 | True, however its not difficult to mess with certain parts of windows in ways you're unsure of. Microsoft publish ways on their website to change the product key too. Besides, im curious how this new member knows that its a dodgy install? Cheers Chill. |

| 376353 | 2005-07-28 11:34:00 | No reason why it will be any dodgier than if the install was legal, it's exactly the same installation (apart from serial) If the machine is running ok there's no reason to format it should be exactly the same apart from the serial number but i have seen quite a few fresh illegal installs that have had virus and trojens in them even tho they had never been on the net . others have had a lot of suspect tweaks which has caused all sorts of things not to work correctly . also i always veiw it as if one thing is dodgy its likly something else will be too . simply formatting/reinstalling eliminats the risk of something coming up and biteing you on the **** later on . |

And as for trojans & viruses being installed with a fresh copy of XP...hire that man he's clever! I've done several slipstream an unattended XP CD setups but don't think I could be bothered slipping in the odd virus or two. However, if a clean install spins yer wheels go for it. |
