| 376827 | 2005-07-30 09:44:00 | Why Does my homepage take so long to load when other pages with more photos take way less? I wonder if my hit counter has something to do with it? :annoyed: http://www.ronsseacorner.co.nz/ |

Whoever you are hosted with should have a stats package already installed for your site, probably webalizer or awstats, both of which will tell you how many hits each page is getting, where your traffic is coming from (which country), and also it will give you a list of 404 errors, these can be caused by missing pages and images (amongst other things) and can slow the loading of your site down (if they are from errors in the pages), Ask your webhost if you have not already been given that information, as having a hit counter on a webpage makes a site look like it was designed by a 5 year old (it's up there with animated gifs and blinking text) and really doesn't serve a purpose, your stats package will be a lot more efficent and accurate I'm assuming it some sort of dreamweaver template? anyway thats my :2cents: for now |

I might do like you say & get rid of the hit counter as in my server side directory I have a report thing. The slide down bottons are just a gif swap, but I don't think that's what slowing the page down otherwise it would on every page. |

Yeah the stat counter takes ages. Try www.statcounter.com - it's probably a lot more efficient, and doesn't show up on the page itself, giving a more professional look. |
