The popups, do they occur only on specific websites or are you seeing them on websites that should have popups for selling stuff appearing? What operating system are you using - Windows 98, Windows XP etc? What browser are you using eg Internet Explorer version 5.5 , 6.0? Have you checked your machine for viruses? As speedy had mentioned, you might have spyware on your machine. There are two free antispyware products that you should use if you don't already have an reputable antispyware program installed. Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) Ad-aware SE Personal Edition (www.lavasoftusa.com) Install them both, use the inbuilt updater to make sure the program is fully updated for its definitions against the spyware and then scan your computer. Another option is to use a program that works in conjunction with your browser to block popups. Or you could use a different browser which has this popup blocker already part of it, for example Firefox (www.mozilla.org), which is free and more secure. |
