376928 2005-07-31 00:18:00 Why have my two CD-RW disks suddenly stopped working? Although the backup program I use (Backup to CD-RW Made Simple) appears to work, there's nothing actually on the disk after I get the 'backup complete' message, and the PC no longer recognises this disk (ie autoplay doesn't begin on insertion).

I have two writers, and the same problem happens with both of them. Both drives read OK, and both drives write to other media (eg CD-R, or DVD-R in the case of the combo drive).

I've tried erasing and reformatting the disks.

If I try a simple copy of one .doc file, I get a Windows error message ("Windows is having trouble writing to this drive").

What I can't understand is that they used to work perfectly and now they've suddenly stopped writing, and I can't think of anything I've done since they worked (except installing Nero, but I don't use that for either backing up or CD writing).

Any light shed greatly appreciated.

376929 2005-07-31 00:50:00 What version of Windows are you using? If XP is SP2 installed?

It might be the program you're using. Nero will do the same thing. I would give it a try

I know Nero has a backup feature but I like my program better (and I also use it to back up to a second hard drive - the CDs are just extra insurance).

As I said before, what really puzzles me is the way it used to work perfectly and now it doesn't.
