376932 2005-07-31 01:27:00 Hi to all, I have been trying to get my older PC to run to use as a back up, but i can't get it to the point where you can put in your activation numbers.
It strangely starts off by loading all the drivers but goes to the point of asking if you want to keep installing XP, or repair. i choose to continue, and it boots back to the very start again, this happens over & over again.
It was running Win ME beforehand and it was going good, i can't take it back to Win Me, because i have got the disk, but i have a brand new XPsp2 disk that i thought it would take.A friend said that it propbably needs flashing BIOS, but
trying to indentify the M/Board is very hard, all i have been able to see is, a sticker on the M/B saying ; "Award 1998,PCI PNP 686, 249251732"
Tried to use Microsofts boot disk[6]but only says error/ put sysytem disk in.
Any thoughts ?
thanks heaps for yesterday too.

376934 2005-07-31 01:32:00 So, u installed XP over ME then installed SP2?

Get Everest Home www.lavalys.com

That'll tell u what the mobo is.

Does it boot in safe mode to Windows?

376936 2005-07-31 01:50:00 Open the case, and look between the the PCI slots, if it has these. The Name/brand might be, or should be etched on the motherboard.

Award isnt the mobo, its the BIOS.

376937 2005-07-31 01:51:00 go download aida16 and put it on a dos boot disk. boot up the pc with it and run aidai16. it should give you enough info. tweak'e (69)

376939 2005-07-31 02:13:00 When your PC first boots the BIOS code will show onscreen (either top or bottom left)
You can usually identify the board from that code, write it down an google it.
Should look similar to this
www.ami.com
You say ME didn't run well on the system (suprise, surprise) you probably have some faulty hardware issues, if that's the case and XP setup won't complete, your stuffed till you identify what hardware is at fault. More than likely faulty Memory

It's an old BIOS code you've listed, what are the machines specs?
CPU, Memory, etc
Might not meet XP's minimum required specs
Try a 98SE or ME disc and see if it will install
