2005-08-03 22:56:00 | Hi, This is a trivial question-a while ago a friend came and installed some extra RAM, which incidently made a huge difference.and for which I thank him. In the install process he inadvertantly changed the CD Rom drive letter from E to R. I have two h/d so my drives etc are A, C,E,and R. At the risk of my so called friends telling me to STOP FIDDLING :( can I reset those to A,C,D,& E ? and how do I do that I am using XP :500Mhz CPU, and have a total of 18.3 Ghz of space --in a very old pooter :badpc: effie c

2005-08-03 23:22:00 | Sure can - its not hard at all. Open up Computer Management (right click My computer - choose Manage) Choose Disk Management - this then shows all the drives. Right click on one and choose Chnage drive letter.

2005-08-04 01:08:00 | Hi, and thank you, One question---when I did these things - O K the D drive letter was available for what was E drive ( Though there is a warning that this may not work after changing- which I take as routine ) but to go to the CD rom drive ( allocated R) the choice would not let me get back to what I want namely E drive,- is that because I have to reboot and take out the  old E drive letter for reallocation? I think so but yes I have been warned many timnes to stop fiddling so do NOT want those smartalecs to be right and stuff up th epooter :D Until I hear from you people I better not reboot  effie.c

Make that F or something, change the one you want to E then change the F back to whatever it was. |

2005-08-04 07:41:00 | Sounds like those programs now think they live on E: rather than D:. Very messy. Did you attempt to open them with shortcuts or the actual .exe? If shortcuts, recreate them. | pctek (84) | |
2005-08-04 09:20:00 | Hi PCTEK- I tried to open them on the shortcuts - would they have opened from say start etc? Now I have smithie 38 badgering me on msn to "stop Fiddling"- as he usually does when we play chess etc- who needs friends like him eh? Anyway it is not the end of the world- I thought I was being politically correct in asking you professionals - - but not so! :D Do you know how to remove the bracketed letters while leaving well alone? effie c :waughh:
