377883 2005-08-03 10:34:00 Hi,

I just wondered if anyone could help? When I press e on my keyboard, es appears! And it is the same with K. when I press K, kw appears and so forth with quite a few other keys. It is getting quite annoying!
Is it a virus or something, as the keys aren;t dirty or stuck together or anything.

Thanks!

377884 2005-08-03 11:21:00 I *think* it may be a problem with the language settings of your keyboard. go Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages tab, Details, and ensure language is English - US.. Or the appropriate language roddy_boy (4115)
377885 2005-08-04 04:19:00 Control Panel > Keyboard or Regional Options > Input Locales is probably what you want. There can be trouble when anything with "US" tagged to it is not used. Eg, change from English [New Zealand] with US layout to English [UK] United Kingdom and your keys get remapped for you.

Put it back to NZ or US English and you should be right.

377886 2005-08-04 09:00:00 Is it a laptop keyboard or an ordinary desktop keyboard? I have this similar problem with a Toshiba laptop and it's the keyboard problem by itself. Apparently, nothing much can be done to eliminate the problem other than replacing it. Have replaced once already and after 2 years, the same old problem developed. It's too expensive to replace a laptop keyboard and I just got an ordinary USB desktop keyboard and plug it in.

This seems to be quite a common problem with laptop computers - have come across several of them already.

377887 2005-08-04 10:15:00 Hi,
It is a normal desktop keyboard that came with my Compaq Presario. I will try the regional settings though and get back to you.

Thanks!

Go for the above and I hope it helps.

Have you tried a friends' keyboard in the same system unit?
If that works then go get a new PS/2 keyboard for about $30 or even less.

Check first though that the keyboard has not been remapped.

There is a program I had yonks ago that would remap the keyboard.

Try Google "remap keyboard"

377889 2005-08-04 10:27:00 I came across a similar problem a few weeks ago
Checked all keybd settings etc. no joy.
I thought it was just dirty (cause it was in a sawmill & covered in dust etc)
Spent yonks stripping and cleaning it
Same problem
I taught the sucker a lesson though.
I spent $30 on a new one!
