| 377892 | 2005-08-03 10:26:00 | Hello All I have a problem getting the Windows Update to work. I enter the site Ok, my machine is scanned and the available updates are presented. I select the updates to install and the install dialog comes up with Please wait etc. but nothing happens and I have to cancel. It's a problem I had a while ago and I managed to fix it but I just can't remember how I did it! :o I've since had to revert to an earlier disk image of my system and the old image was before I cured the download problem. Can anyone help please? Thanks JonB |

| 377898 | 2005-08-03 22:02:00 | OK Here it is....... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Go to this link to download a file called MCREPAIR.exe download.microsoft.com 2) Save this file to your Desktop 3) Open Windows Explorer 4) Create a temporary backup directory called C:\Backup 5) Navigate to C:\Windows\System 6) Copy these files to the C:\Backup directory Asycfilt.dll Oleaut32.dll Olepro32.dll Stdole2.tlb 7) Verify that the copies are in C:\Backup 8) Return to your Desktop and double click MCREPAIR.EXE 9) Click YES to all messages that appear 10) When process is complete you will be prompted to reboot your PC 11) Try Widows Update again and if the download still hangs and /or you encounter problems with other applications on your PC, use the following steps to restore your original files. a) Open Windows Explorer b) Navigate to C:\Backup c) Copy the four files there into C:\Windows\System d) Click the "Yes to All" button e) Reboot your PC -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This fixed the problem for me!
