377653 2005-08-03 01:20:00 Hi all. Recently installed a Pioneer DVD burner (DVR-A09XLA). It doen't come with a driver and I can't see there is a driver for it on Pioneer web site. It seems very strange that it identified it as DVR-109, instead of DVR-A09XLA. Does this happen to anyone?

Thanks

377654 2005-08-03 01:27:00 . . . It seems very strange that it identified it as DVR-109, instead of DVR-A09XLA . . .

The OS doesn't "identify" hardware . It just reports what the device tells it . So that's what the Pioneer drive thinks it is . ;)

Try searching for a driver for that .

My AO6 did the same thing . It was seen as a 106 . Basicall the 106 was an OEM model and the AO6 a retail model . Same guts . . diffrent bundled software . .

377656 2005-08-03 01:30:00 You sure someone didnt upgrade the firmware for a 109??

What version of the firmware is installed now???

Both recent firmware updates for both burners are 1.57....maybe someone flashed yours with the 109 update?

377657 2005-08-03 01:47:00 I haven't update the firmware. It is brand new and bought it straight from retail shop. ahd8888 (184)
377658 2005-08-03 02:18:00 "dvr 109 pioneer driver" to Google seems to find mostly firmware upgrades. There are references to a driver for Windows 98SE (and Pioneer provide a DOS driver. )

Doesn't it work on Wanders XP without a driver? ;)

377659 2005-08-03 02:35:00 By reading at their web site, apparently it looks like DVR-109 and DVR-A09 are the same burner, so they are using the same driver. The only different is the cosmetic apperance, DVR-109 (OEM version) and DVR-A09 (Retail version) and DVR-A09 come with software bundles. I didn't use the installation disc that come with it, it just installed the driver itself. Probably that is the reason why it identified as DVR-109. ahd8888 (184)
377660 2005-08-03 02:51:00 You shouldn't need a driver for it. It well use the Windows XP default driver. I have recently put in a Asus DRW-1608P DVD RW Drive and it uses the XP default drivers.

377661 2005-08-03 03:05:00 Yup I think windows detecting it as a 109 is normal .

A site I went to shows a pic of Nero picking it up as a DVR-109 .

377662 2005-08-03 03:34:00 Does no one ever read anything I write? :( :annoyed:

Windows does not "detect" such devices . IDE devices tell the OS what they are when they are asked . There is a block of memory in the IDE controller on the device which holds the information . Similarly, USB devices tell the OS who they are .

This has nothing to do with drivers . It is in the hardware (or firmware) .

Trev confirms my suspicion that a driver should not be needed in XP . Drivers are available for W98SE and DOS . It's a bit surprising that Pioneer have provided one for DOS .
