| 377663 | 2005-08-03 03:54:00 | Does no one ever read anything I write? :( :annoyed: Windows does not "detect" such devices . IDE devices tell the OS what they are when they are asked . There is a block of memory in the IDE controller on the device which holds the information . Similarly, USB devices tell the OS who they are . This has nothing to do with drivers . It is in the hardware (or firmware) . Trev confirms my suspicion that a driver should not be needed in XP . Drivers are available for W98SE and DOS . It's a bit surprising that Pioneer have provided one for DOS . Yeah, right . The DVR-A09 tell the OS that its name is DVR-109, not DVR-A09 . :D ---> My name is DVR-A09, but u (OS) can call me DVR-109 . I duno why? I just duno . :waughh: |

| 377664 | 2005-08-03 03:55:00 | Yup I think windows detecting it as a 109 is normal . A site I went to shows a pic of Nero picking it up as a DVR-109 . Would u pls tell me the site . Thanks |

| 377666 | 2005-08-03 04:11:00 | It's quite simple . The drive appears to be a DVR-A09 to you . That's printed on the box . It might be on a label or badge on the drive . But the OS is blind . The OS can't see the box the drive came in . It can't see the badge . It knows that it's a DVR-109 because the drive tells it so, in electronic messages . The drive knows it's a DVR-109, because that is written into its software . That's what it is . I have seen laser printers with a label saying they were a particular computer manufacturer's own brand printer . To me they looked a lot like an HP printer . ;) The badge peeled off and, guess what, they were HP Laser Jets . If they were plugged into a PC, they would be seen as HP Laser Jets, because the HP software in the printers knows what it is . I would be inclined to install the appropriate HP LJ driver if the OS didn't automatically do that for me . |

| 377668 | 2006-03-14 13:51:00 | I do have a problem with my A109. Looks like after flashing firmware to 1.57 it wont read :help: 8.5 dual layer Ridata disks. If anyone knows were I can download older versions for the A109 that would help me. Had ver.1.50 Should have left it alone, but the update date showed this would help on new + type media.
