I didnt realise there were so many different mice. Some are really cheap, around $15, yet some are about $90, what is the difference?

I am wanting an optical, as I am getting sick of this ball mouse. Yet my Dad has a Microsoft optical, and it seems to skip and jerk often, which is worse than my ball mouse.

I am lookin around $20, but don't want to get a shoddy optical mouse. Will I have to pay more, or are there some good quality cheap ones out there?

378263 2005-08-04 11:25:00 i've also had a good run with genius. cheap enough, work ok and very rarly every die.

MS products always seam to be over priced......however my first mouse (ms) is still going today.

378265 2005-08-04 11:41:00 MS mouses, as with all their products, are well made and designed, however are over priced.

I too have had a brilliant run with Genius mouse. My current one is a Genius NetScroll+ Optical (800dpi and 5 buttons) Brilliant response and curvy design make it easy to hold. $20+GST is what I bought it for. Been looking for another one for my laptop, but can't seem to find anymore at this price.

378266 2005-08-04 11:49:00 At the cheap end I have found the MS product to be the poorest and the most expensive.Seen many an A4,Genius,excel and others doing fine in the long run, though have seen many dead ones as well.

Personally I like a large heavy mouse...which is why I have a logitech MX500 though I can't honestly say it was worth what I paid for it.

On my laptop I have a Microsoft Platinum Explorer, nice size, presice, good button placement but feels very light.

At my workstation (where I spend the majority of my day) I have a plain grey 2 button mouse that is a good billion years old....does the job just as well as a fancy one....

378267 2005-08-04 11:53:00 Yet my Dad has a Microsoft optical, and it seems to skip and jerk often, which is worse than my ball mouse. Some optical mice get picky about the surface they run on which can cause jerky cursor movement. Perhaps he could try a different mouse pad. Jen (38)
378268 2005-08-04 12:01:00 I would avoid using A4 mice. I had one and it didnt last a month. This was through basic web usage.

I found that my MS mouse at times (not recently strangely) will just go haywire.
That is it will go all over the screen, opening/closing/modifying windows and such. The last time it did that was when I was playing JK2: Jedi Outcast.

This also happened with my old optical mouse which was from 2001.

Maybe it cos of my fat hands and fingers...

378269 2005-08-04 13:21:00 My first MS mouse (balled) lasted an age, the cable clapped out in the end .

The next three MS offerings I got, from $30+ (equiv to $20 now) to 90+, all clapped out within a year . An A4 and a Genius have also clapped out in fairly short time, (A4 on a diff PC) while another Genius on the other PC is still going strong .

I'm hoping the Logitech MX1000 Laser I paid an arm and a leg for a few months back will last the distance . IMO, the ease of use and comfort are worth every penny spent, so far .

378270 2005-08-04 13:33:00 Was it your arm and leg? (seems a bit steep) :p Metla (12)
378271 2005-08-04 14:50:00 I was thinking about the same mouse and getting the keyboard to match, that combo was two arms and a leg. :D Rob99 (151)
