378763 2005-08-05 23:37:00 I have Windows Xp SP2 with all updates,Trend Micro Internt Security, Adaware and Spybot. The problem is with one of the users desktop. Display properties does not work, cannot change the desktop background, the recycle bin properties is not accesable, annd internet access does not work.
Have done a system restore which fixed it only until system was rebooted. No other users are affected and a new user account works OK. This happened for no known reason. This is my first post to Press F1 ca anyone help me please.

You may find that the profile is corrupt. Create a new profile for that person and copy their personal data over to it. You can find instructions on how to do this here - How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile (support.microsoft.com)

378765 2005-08-06 11:10:00 Thankyou Jen. Unfortunately I deleted the problem user account and lost files with it. After a system restore the folders returned but were all empty. Does anyone know if these files can be restored or is it too late? patoola (8674)
378766 2005-08-06 12:25:00 If you stop using the PC and get the computer to a data recovery specialist you may get some back. The files will still exist in whole or in (unuseable) part in most cases, but loading recovery software on and using the PC runs the risk of data overwriting the disk space they occupied.

With multiple user profiles on an XP PC. its 100% essential to run a backup procedure as often as possible, as any user profile corruption will often delete all files created by that user. I am aware of one business that had to spend a thousand or more $ to get some critical data back, they were lucky as they did immediately stop using the PC and took it to their service support company.

You can DIY to a degree (best using another PC and attaching the Hard Drive to it), but you run the risk of total data loss unless you have a reasonable understanding of the processes, in my experience.
