378550 2005-08-05 05:33:00 Hello All

I am thinking about installing Apple Quicktime on my laptop & I am wondering if any one has any problems with it?

Also is there any light version of it out there?

378551 2005-08-05 05:53:00 There are two versions. QT and QTpro, shouldn't be any problems.. plod (107)
378552 2005-08-05 05:59:00 Its as crap as it gets, easily the worst media player I have come across(ok, realplayer is just as bad), Get Quicktime Alternative instead.

378553 2005-08-05 07:18:00 QuickTime is great. I think the reason some Windows users don't like it is because they don't understand the point of it. As well acting as a video player it also provides a framework that other applications can use and includes features such as QTVR for 3D environments and objects. If you are planning on using it to organise your music, you should be using iTunes instead. :)

The free version is essentially a light version. To access more advanced features such as audio/video recording functions, editing and exporting you need to upgrade to the Pro version.

I got to agree with Metla and get this codec.

378555 2005-08-05 08:56:00 My complaint about Quicktime was its determination to run constantly in the background when I had 98SE.
I got so sick of removing it time & again from the Startup menu - where it kept sneaking back - that I dumped it.
So even now with XP, I find myself dodging programs which need it.
Is the Alternative better behaved - or does it also stick like chewing gum?

378556 2005-08-05 09:25:00 Watch out for the mentioned Itunes as well, its another resource hog that installs startup items, back ground services and drivers, it also steals the file assoctions if you remove other programs and it doesn't uninstall cleanly.

And its just a very basic mp3 layer with a playlist, and watch out that it doesn't copy all your music into its program file directory, especially if the program partition doesn't have enough room.

It also installs quicktime (infact it is quicktime with a different interface, more intrusive install and less features) which takes over playback of quicktime files, which are far better off played with just a codec.

Dodgy and utter rubbish.

Now lets wait and see if I just don't understand how awesome it really is.....

378558 2005-08-05 10:33:00 I dunno, iTunes is a pretty good application for what it does. (Yes I use apple software. ****.) But yes, quicktime is absolutly huge, I'm wondering why it has to be so absolutly massive Edward (31)
378559 2005-08-06 12:22:00 "yes it's absolutely huge" ... I don't know what the definition of huge is in this case but V. 5 , at about 9 MB, is available if you search the QT site for "Previous versions". Robin S_ (86)
