378349 2005-08-04 20:32:00 My computer has this - bit of a newbie where this is concerned. Can I record on to DVD - what can I do with it and what discs would I buy. DUH I know but hey you don't as you don't find out. Thanks www1.bottomdollar.com frossy13 (4462)
378350 2005-08-04 20:52:00 Your DVD is a dual layer writer. This means you can write DVD's like you have done with CD writers. The dual layer is a newer technology which allows you to record double the amount of data onto special dual layer DVD's. A standard DVD will hold 4.7 GB of data, a dual layer twice that.

DVD devices will vary to which sort of DVD media standards it will support, and from the specifications your one will accept -R and +R type disks.

Because you can fit a lot of data on a DVD, this makes it ideal for storing your large files on eg, digital photos, videos, music. If you have a video camera you can create your own home movies and record them to DVD's to play on the TV.

You can also watch DVD's on your computer using the device.

378352 2005-08-04 21:52:00 What do you want to put on the discs, if you just want to store stuff I would forget about the RW discs and just go for write once as they are much cheaper. Rob99 (151)

378356 2005-08-05 00:14:00 Personally, I would steer away from unknown brands. I would go for makes like SKC, TDK, Sony, Mitsubishi, Verbatim etc, to name but a few.

378357 2005-08-05 00:58:00 I use Laser blanks. Cheap, but never had a prob with burning with these.

I wouldnt bother with DL disks at the mo. Just one is too expensive. Stick with normal blanks for now. Until the price comes down.

378358 2005-08-05 20:37:00 My Optorite drive absolutely (DD0201) loves the cheap CMC and Princo media, after I had a firmware upgrade. I HIGHLY recommend you upgrade your firmware also!
My Princo drive never liked the Laser discs, dunno why it just didnt... My TS-H552 will burn to Laser alright though.

Cheers
