378304 2005-08-04 17:12:00 Here's my situation. you may recreate it with the steps below:

1. I created a local group "TestGroup"
2. I added my domain user account "jvan" in it
3. I created a file: "test.txt" and stripped it of all inherited permissions (the security tab's "Group or user names" box was blank)
4. I added "TestGroup" to the list and gave them full control (and applied it)
5. I hit "Advanced", went to the "Effective Permissions" tab and checked for the "jvan" account. (it said I had full control)
6. I OK'ed out of everything and tried to open "test.txt" and got "Access is denied." from Notepad

If anyone understands why this is happening, please let me know! I appreciate any feedback :dogeye:

378305 2005-08-04 21:11:00 One thing that will affect permissions is the folder the test.txt file is stored in. Any file that is moved to a folder with permissions of any kind will inherit those permissions. i.e. your file test.txt has permissions for testgroup to have full control. But if that file is in a folder that doesn't give testgroup full control, then testgroup no longer has full control of the file test.txt.

Try changing the folder permissions

Unfortunately I have already stripped the inheritance from "test.txt" so the problem does lie elsewhere.
Just as another test I did create a new folder "C:\jnk" and made sure bothe the root of the c drive and the "jnk" folder have full permissions for my test group. i then moved "test.txt" into this folder and the same problem was incurred.

STILL NEED HELP! Has anyone ever done this before
