378797 2005-08-06 03:22:00 Have a mate who has this Presario 5000 computer that needs to be reinstalled he has the CD's but when we boot it it asks to insert the recovery diskette. He does not have this. We went to the Compaq site (about as much use as a chocolate fireguard). To look for any information, all we got was about how to use the recovery CD's and that when it boots it gives you 4 options one of these is to make a recovery diskette. Well this version of Cd's does not have this option all we get is a screen that we press enter to continue then we get the Insert the diskette screen click OK to continue or Ecs to skip. When we press ESC a screen saying Contact Compaq support comes up. Is there somewhere we can get this diskette.

Cheers

378798 2005-08-06 07:58:00 I've had a quick search on the net and there appears to be a problem with the system restore if you have a password setup in the BIOS. Your will need to remove any bios passwords before restoring.
You should be able to perform a factory restore without using a recovery diskette so i'm not quite sure what the problem could be unless you have the wrong recovery disks.
