378719 2005-08-05 19:05:00 I've been trying to run Mepis on my computer. I started my computer, accessed the BIOS and changed the order so it would boot from my CD drive.. but for some reason, my computer is still just running my usual Windows XP, any suggestions as to what i'm doing wrong? dmahajan (8673)

Did you burn the Mepis CD yourself? If you did, was it burnt as an image. You can check this by browsing the CD from Windows and making sure there are various folders and files on the CD and not just the single original ISO file. The CD will not be bootable otherwise.

378722 2005-08-05 23:49:00 Well, I got Mepis to run off of the CD, but now it is prompting me for my username and password, and the usual username and password from my XP account is not working.. is there something I'm missing here? dmahajan (8673)
378723 2005-08-06 00:17:00 Your Windows username and password will not work unless you have installed Mepis onto your hard drive and made the username and passwords the same.

For your live CD installation the username is demo and the password is demo - I think.

If those do not work let us know.

378724 2005-08-06 01:27:00 FoxyMX is correct with the password and user name, the root user is even more difficult to guess :xmouth: you should be able to work it out if the password for user demo is demo then the password for user root is...............

But for the time being use the demo user even though mepis is a live cd there are some apps in there that will deal to windows OS

be carefull
