379466 2005-08-08 14:29:00 I was wondering if there are any better options for ADSL other than that provided by Xtra... Does anyone have any idea of whom may be the best provider.
Thanks!

379467 2005-08-08 14:57:00 They are all reliant on Telecom if your going the route of Adsl, Better plans then what Xtra supply are available everywhere, I cant imagine anyone could compete by offering anything worse, Xtra will hold that honour, they have marketing and their parent company to keep it all sweet.

I have been refering people to slingshot due to the Billion router they are giving to new customers and the ever popular unlimited 256k plan.

Just like a chocolate Milkshake, only completely different in everyway.

379469 2005-08-08 15:27:00 Also Metla, one more thing, I've only been with Xtra for a couple of months, do you know if they will incur a charge for leaving them? I'm on their basic plan, I was looking through their details but I couldn't find mention of it, it's probably hidden somewhere in their Xtra fine print, that is also typed in an Xtra white font against an Xtra white background.... i should get some sleep... :groan: bizzack (7739)
379470 2005-08-08 15:32:00 pretty sure they sting ya for a cold hundred, and there is probally an additional $100 connection fee from the new ISP.

When I changed they charged me $300, I just pointed out the fee to Mrs Metla and she ripped strips off them, Think we got the entire fee removed, It was a sight to behold.

(Im not allowed to ring them, seems they can blacklist ya, Makes ringing them about my business acounts a pain)

Can you remember if you had to pay to get your ADSL connected, did you get a free modem or a period of free usage?
If you didn't get any freebies then you shouldn't have to pay an early disconnection fee.

hmm.. I can't afford $300 to change.. oh well.. :groan:

I bought my own ADSL modem and then signed up with Orcon for a broadband connection via Bitstream which of course is Telecom. It took three months to actually get my phone line enabled for ADSL. This is obviously due to Telecom.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

In the meantime Orcon gave me a FREE dial up connection.

I did not need installation at all on this end.

Since Jan of this year Orcon has been down for an hour or two only twice as I see it.

I have no real issues with Orcon.
