379197 2005-08-09 02:31:00 I installed a Compaq power supply into a standard PC. The Compaq supply had a different motherboard plug and wiring configuration, but all I had to do was cut the lead off the dud supply and graft it onto the Compaq (getting the actual connections right of course). The reverse rewiring would be no harder if you really want to put a standard PSU into the machine.

Before anybody asks why, the shops were closed, I had a dead PC and a spare compaq supply and I didn't want to wait till Monday.

Cheers

379198 2005-08-09 02:56:00 Don't know if the plug is likely to be a problem. I have run a Compaq with a standard unmodified ATX temporarily without the cover on. The reason people go to a lot of trouble trying to find Compaq PSU is because Mini ATX PSU probably doesn't fit Compaqs.
If it's a business PC it's probably not worth the trouble on something that old. Next some other part like the HD will fail.

379200 2005-08-09 03:30:00 I have a bunch here that have 24-pin connectors on them, they are all in the 800mhz cpu range to give an indication of age.

The actual PSU is a non-standard size as well, being squater.
