379434 2005-08-08 10:37:00 Hi
Something has happened, as it often does wih computers. When I go Start, Run, type "msconfig" the following error message pisses me off.

"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an administrator account"

Well I am logged on as as an administrator, so that won't work.

The last thing I did you may ask was to return to a previous known restore point because a driver I downloaded caused Windows to be unstable. The restore point was 3 days earlier.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received as to what i can try next.

On another note, my log-in became unstable but the admin account and another user account were fine.

Because I was unable to log on in my account successfully I restarted windows and when i saw the operating system logo appear on the screen i pressed F8 hoping to see the "advanced options" screen so i could select the Last Known Good Configuration - but it wouldna work for me. Has anyone else had trouble with this, has anyone had any success with this mode of trying to retrieve the situation.

Cheers

Cam

379437 2005-08-08 11:18:00 Go start > run
type services.msc
try disabling an unneeded service such as Uninterrupted Power Supply (assuming you don't use one)
Do you still get the error message?

379438 2005-08-09 11:37:00 Thanks guys, nothing worked so I finally restored the image of my c drive using the Acronis True image I make on a weekly basis. It worked a treat and 30 minutes later i was up and running again.
Cheers, good luck with all your problems.

And thanks for letting us know how you solved it.

I use the same sort of program but have not had to use it to escape from a problem as yet.
