1389446 2014-12-03 23:56:00 Howdy folks,

I am pretty sure no one has asked a 'which AV' in the last 24 hrs :p, so...

I just got myself a new laptop as the old one is over 6 years old. It runs Windows 8.1. I've had NOD32 Antivirus only on the Vista laptop, but I'm not sure if I should get the ESET smart security package which includes a firewall for the new one. Thoughts?

1389447 2014-12-04 00:24:00 I am personally more than happy with the windows (7 and 8) firewall and NOD32. There are a few other nice features ESS has, such as the parental controls, anti theft etc, if those features appeal to you then go for ESS, if not NOD32 is absolutely fine.

Seeing as you already have a NOD32 license, adding another will cost you stuff all, or you could upgrade the license to ESS then extend it to a two user, totally up to you.

If you do go the way that Wratterus mentioned
Seeing as you already have a NOD32 license, adding another will cost you stuff all, or you could upgrade the license to ESS then extend it to a two user Make sure you do it in that order, if you upgraded to ESS first, then added another licence it will cost slightly more ( naff all but still more).

If you are going to stop using the Old Laptop, then simply install the current licence of Nod32 onto the New one. (remove it from Vista) With Eset Protection, the licence is connected to the user, not the computer like some others. Meaning if you have 1 licence, as long as its only on one computer at a time, no worries :)

1389449 2014-12-04 00:44:00 I just love Eset's licensing... wratterus (105)
1389450 2014-12-04 01:07:00 Thanks for the advice guys. :)

My license is due for renewal in a few days so I will upgrade it to the ESET smart security as it is only another $10. The Vista lappy will be re-homed for my parent's use and as they don't have broadband right now, I will put AVAST on it for the time being. Being able to later add another license and put NOD32 back on the Vista lappy is great option.
