| 1389324 | 2014-12-02 22:49:00 | I downloaded "MP3towav" from CNET yesterday. I scanned the installer before running it, OK. Once installed I ran it. It did what it was meant to, then my computer partially froze. Avast stopped working so did Spybot S&D and MS Security Essentials; A folder named "Tools" which had links to security software disappeared from the desktop, even in Safe Mode. It didnt appear in the usual places for uninstalling like CCleaner or Control Panel. It was not in Task Manager either. I fixed it eventually by going to My Computer-C drive-programs and deleting it. PROBLEM SOLVED every thing went back to normal. |

| 1389326 | 2014-12-02 23:16:00 | CNET is prone to adding bloatware and is to be avoided if possible. Often times the same software can be found on it's own website with a quick google search and downloaded without the extras. Always pay attention to what you are accepting when installing any downloaded software though, things like this often result from not reading one of the install screens. If it's an actual virus it's very unlikely you've fixed it with a simple file delete, I'd run scans to be sure. Add an online nod32 scan to the list to be extra safe. |

| 1389330 | 2014-12-02 23:58:00 | Have you rebooted, it might come back. I have been using PC's since Windows 98 was new. I know what I am doing. I restarted, scanned with Avast and Spybot S&D restarted and ran CCleaner to remove the traces. |

| 1389333 | 2014-12-03 00:27:00 | I have also reported it to Avast which didnt catch it, and CNET who let it in. I scanned the installer before running it, OK. Two Things: 1. They wont care, because they know theres sometimes "extra" added in, someone has to pay for this free software, and I know the answer to this :) , BUT I bet when you clicked "I Agree" you Didn't read what you were agreeing to first ;). #7 in their terms, which you agreed to We may provide third party content (including advertisements) or link to third party websites on the Services. We do not necessarily endorse or evaluate third party content and websites, and we do not assume responsibility for third parties actions or omissions. You should review third parties terms of use and privacy policies before you use their services. In certain instances, you may be able to connect and/or link your account to certain third party social media sites ("Social Media Sites"), including, without limitation, Facebook and Twitter. Assuming its the same MP3to WAV on Cnets Site -- When you click on the download its only the installer, it will download the actual program after you click "I Agree". 2. Just installed it, and theres nothing like what you mentioned, everything is clean, Nod32 didn't pick up anything, so either your PC was already infected with something or it came from someplace else. I have been using PC's since Windows 98 was new. I know what I am doing. --------- I fixed it eventually by going to My Computer-C drive-programs and deleting it. Errrrrrrrrr Sorry to say, but if you knew what you're doing you would know that simply removing a programs folder doesn't get it all out. What about reg keys, temp files it may create when installing, and various other places programs put entries ? scanned with Avast and Spybot S&D restarted Those were a good idea, BUT sometimes they don't get it all. Often you have to run various antimalware programs to remove some infections. :) |
