1376611 2014-06-06 03:15:00 If I ever get introduced to a marketing expert, he better hope I'm not holding a blunt object in my hand.

I hate any animations on a webpage. For instance I'm frequently told in blinking red text that I'm the one millionth visitor, or having an obnoxious car video automatically start playing when I visit a webpage.

Previously I kept Adobe Flash out of my various browsers and disabled GIF animations so I could read without distractions.

But with advertisers, a.k.a. scum, any victory is temporary. At least pond scum gives us oxygen.

HTML5 added an autoplay features: ads start playing automatically when you go to a page.

<audio src="vincent.mp3" controls="true" loop="true" autoplay="true"></audio>

And there's also JavaScript onunload events: "are you sure you want to leave this webpage, and miss this exciting opportunity?"

Anyone come across addons to kill HTML5 and Javascripts more annoying features? I use the latest versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer.

1376612 2014-06-06 03:42:00 Dont see any ads here in FF or IE. Install adblock and install some of these in IE (www.iegallery.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1376613 2014-06-06 04:39:00 You mean people still run FF or Chrome without adblock??!! pctek (84)
1376614 2014-06-06 05:37:00 Yeah, just use FF or Chrome and install AdBlock, I haven't seen an ad in years... wratterus (105)

1376616 2014-06-07 02:06:00 Thanks all. I'll try AdBlock and NoScript. Cheers kingdragonfly (309)
1376617 2014-06-07 02:18:00 Yes, but what do you think pays for all the free content you get?

But yes there are some types of ads that I feel should be banned or as you say the creators killed.

1376618 2014-06-07 08:50:00 Anyone placing an ad anywhere, TV, print media, web, etc. that invades my serenity - i.e. disturbs my enjoyment of the medium - absolutely guarantees that I will not patronise their business. It is possible to advertise without whacking me upside the head with it. Flashing flash on the web, screaming voices on TV, advertising 'supplements that fall out of the newspaper (necessitating bending my aching limbs to retrieve it) all fall into that category, as do the reams of brightly printed paper that stuff my letterbox leaving no room for the bills. I hate them all and the advertising agencies that facilitate them! Blue Druid (4480)
1376619 2014-06-07 09:45:00 Interesting. I've been using Firefox with Adblock Plus for years but lately have noticed unwanted scripts floating over videos or webpages. Sometimes they appear to sneak in after ten seconds or so. Very annoying and unblockable so far as I can find. Winston001 (3612)
1376620 2014-06-07 09:57:00 If I wanted ads, I'll install adware / malware :p Speedy Gonzales (78)
