1375829 2014-05-25 10:01:00 "The Budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled,
public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be
tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be
curtailed, lest Rome will become bankrupt. People must again learn to work
instead of living on public assistance." - Cicero , 55 BC

So, evidently we've learned bugger all over the past 2,069 years.

1375831 2014-05-25 20:44:00 The Truth:
This alleged quote from Marcus Tullius Cicero that began circulating on the Internet in October, 2008, is based on a true statement from the great Roman orator, but someone added a lot to it to make it match some of what the United States was facing economically.

The actual quote is: "The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome fall."

Rome fell because they kept expanding (Taking over) more and more nations....

1375833 2014-05-25 22:48:00 There was one in our office many years ago that I really liked, turns out it's a popular fake.

We trained hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganised. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganising: and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress, while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation. Caius Petronius, Roman Consul, 66 A.D.

Apparently it dates back to the late 40's and occupied germany but nobody knows who started it. Still hits the mark despite it's fake origins.

It's called poetic license, it's the principal that counts.

Looks good to me, it has been translated from Latin who wants to nitpick about a few details?. Have to agree we humans seem doomed to repeat **** ups in generational cycles. The best one imo was the kippers forgetting to put on heaps of AA armament on their ships when they took them to the Malvinas. Seems we forgot lead in the air is lethal to attacking planes or incoming missiles. They even had to dive down and get the waist and flight deck brownings from a sunken frigate.
