1389354 2014-12-04 06:37:00 There is no software that will run on a computer that is frozen. It wouldnt even restart. Only Ctrl Alt Delete would work. Read my latest post. You said partly frozen in the original post. Theres still ways. If Ctrl Alt Delete was working then it can be restarted, its NOT fully frozen.

How come there's no reply to the other questions please ?

Tell you what - just to confirm if you did get taken for a ride or it was something else that really caused the original problem -- please supply a Link to the actual page that has the file you downloaded. I tried one called MP3toWav and it was fine.

Deal with these sorts of things daily, so I'm prepared to confirm it or advise it could have been something else. If its as bad as you say, then the software I have will stop it from even downloading. Of course if you dont supply a link - the question could be asked ------(Well you figure it out) ;)

1389355 2014-12-04 10:46:00 Avast Webrep and Webutation both give Cnet and Cnet Download.com a pass, as safe. Many users do to.
See here_ www.webutation24.net

Oh well - if webutation says its good, then it must be mustn't it!! - no one tells b/s on the internet do they

But actually, I followed your link , and I only see 7 user reviews - and the first 4 all say it's cr@p

Here's the very top one LOL

Webutations is risking their reputation by giving CNET a Green Light on the "layering" or whatever.

CNET offers downloads that are chock full of tricky extras that come with the main download.... tricky extras I did NOT want, but they are grey on grey and mustbe UNCHECKED or they come with. Who knows what bugs are in them.

I thought that was the point of CNET - to provide a layer of protection from dishonest, damaging software. AND, I thought the point of having Webutation was to block sites such as CNET.

And the other COMMENTS here agree with me - they got "tricky extras". Who would want software from a company that SNEAKS their product into a download??

Also, even the download I was looking for, and found on CNET, cannot be UNINSTALLED - It is "OTSHOT" - an email photo thing.
So - Beware of OTSHOT [not that you would want it - I thought it was photo editing software, it isn't] .

CNET is bad and Webutation is approving? Now, I wonder if I can UNINSTALL Webutation?

1389356 2014-12-04 20:49:00 There may be more going on here.
Ive never seen the CNET download wrapper install anything that disables AV & Spybot .
Would CNET really add something that nasty , the CNET addons/wrappers Ive seen really arnt as bad as that. Some freeware there is no choice, its a CNET download or nothing.

And lets not forget , why the h*ll do some well known malware & AV companies choose CNET as a download partner. Its just legitimizing CNETs practises
Its not just CNET doing this sort of thing, java updates sometimes add the ASK toolbar: that changes the Browsers home page & web search default (ie the same practice as Malware).
