1389334 2014-12-03 00:51:00 Avoid Cnet, download.com and filehippo. ALL 3 will give you malware. Its been known for ages that cnet repackage installers and put their own crap in their downloads Speedy Gonzales (78)
1389335 2014-12-03 02:57:00 exactly! - but this guy "knows what he's doing" since win98 ;)

and is always SO careful on the internet but doesn't know to avoid Cnet like the plague LMAO

1389336 2014-12-03 04:17:00 A programme called Unchecky is worth having,it has stopped the sneaky buggers slipping stuff on to my computer many a time....and its free.

http://unchecky.com/

Always check for the authors site....especially if you know what your doing.

1389337 2014-12-03 05:54:00 I also avoid C Net and any other site which offers unwanted ad-dons, offers to scan the computer, or has some fancy down loader. I find that Malwarebytes is very good, stops me going into dodgy sites. mzee (3324)
1389338 2014-12-03 17:54:00 Have you rebooted, it might come back.

Read my first post. I deleted, the malware in safe mode so a restart is obvious.

One should always read the first post before replying, to avoid looking foolish.

Errrrrrrrrr Sorry to say, but if you knew what you're doing you would know that simply removing a programs folder doesn't get it all out. What about reg keys, temp files it may create when installing, and various other places programs put entries ?

Wainuitech, removal simply made it possible to run the previously disabled AV software, I thought that was obvious.

1389341 2014-12-03 18:45:00 CNET has replied,
Here is part of there email; In future, although you cannot avoid using a software publisher's own installer when downloading their program, if you prefer not to use the Download.com Installer, you can simply click the Direct Download Link that is provided on all Installer Enabled product pages.

Read more about that option here:

For more detailed information on the Download.com Installer, please visit the following resource:

Wainuitech, removal simply made it possible to run the previously disabled AV software, I thought that was obvious. You said before you knew what you were dong, using your own terminology, you don't know. If you did you wouldn't have installed the malware that you say was associated with the programs installed.
Like others I DID read your 1st post a couple of times to make sure what you were posting, you weren't asking for help as you said you had solved the problem, looks more like a ego trip / wanting a pat on the back by posting you managed to fix a problem you created yourself.

On an average week, do you know how many customers Computers we ( and other computer service people as well) would get through from people "who know what they are doing" and are riddled with infections ?

One yesterday, they were having all sorts of problems trying to get a online game to work, the son thought he knew everything, couldn't be told anything ( had been trying to fix it for around 3 weeks) and started insulting his father, the father called me ( done work many times previously for them over the years) in less than 2 minutes had it working fine - obviously he didn't know everything eh ! ;)

Re your letter from Cnet -- if you knew what you were doing, then you would have also known about the alternative ways to download. ;)
