2014-06-07 12:39:00 | yes, but no one has told me why the sketch is funny! and why it is so famous ! Re-Read the first two lines on PCTeks post #5. Sometimes its not so much whats said, or even the way its is said, body language has a lot to do with it as well, background noise etc. Look at most of the good comedians, sometimes they don't say anything at all, just a look, a reaction can make you laugh. Was listening to Kevin Bloody Wilson live the other day, one of his songs he made a smart comment (as he does) everyone laughed, then as it died down one female let out this late high pitched giggle -- It had Wilson laughing as well, he had to stop, and every one at the burst out laughing. One of those things doesn't sound like much to read, but listen and you'd smile as well :)

2014-06-07 21:40:00 | Digby Just admit that you are a boring old fart :) I told you that I bought their Big Red Book and watched and loved most of their tv shows and a couple of their rmovies and I have bought some of their DVD's. Its just that I do (did) not get the Dead Parrot Sketch! (or see why it is rated so highly.)

2014-06-07 22:26:00 | Digby, the analysis of this sketch on the dreaded wikipedia comes close to explaining this type of humor. en.wikipedia.org Of course, humor is a personal thing, not everyone will find a work funny. Analysis of humour always seems a bit "suck the fun out of it" to me. But even the the customers' name is funny (Mr Praline). the late Mr Chapman was a genius IMHO.

(a great read) I liked the idea of the car falling to pieces infront of the salesman as a prelude to the parrot sketch. But I still think there are far more funnier Python sketches. But it looks like I am outvoted. |

2014-06-08 04:12:00 | Why is is funny? IMO: Because it's obviously dead. Salesman refuses to admit it. Like may a shop when you take something faulty back.
