1376550 2014-06-06 21:23:00 The faster the speed the bigger smash, I would like to see speeders pulled from their cars shot in the head with a pistol bullet and left on the side of the road as a warning to others. prefect (6291)
1376551 2014-06-06 21:52:00 Anyone who says a speed camera located on a down-hill bit of road is not a revenue gathering device is talking BULLSHIT!!!!:+1: paulw (1826)
1376552 2014-06-06 22:09:00 Well you can decline giving money as a fine by slowing down, but you will need to use the brake pedal for down hill overruns. Dont use it and pay, your choice. Disk pads are cheap. prefect (6291)
1376553 2014-06-06 22:50:00 Would anyone care to state when the last fatality on State Highway 1, Ngauranga (in the area of the speed camera's location) was?

Better still, when was the last accident in that area?

I seem to remember in the Dominion a year or two ago saying that there had been none.

1376556 2014-06-06 23:35:00 My point about the speed camera on Ngauranga Gorge, which is located in a 80 KPH zone, is that it is deliberately placed to catch cars that are automatically increasing their speed due to the fact that the car is now going downhill.

It is a proven fact that a vehicle traveling down a hill will ALWAYS increase its speed unless some form of resistance is applied.

With today's automatic cars, unless the driver engages a lower gear, the car will automatically speed up. Most drivers today do not know of, or how to apply engine braking by engaging a lower gear.

Just watch their brake lights displaying all the way down the hill. :(

1376557 2014-06-06 23:46:00 And people wonder why I insist on driving a manual... pcuser42 (130)
1376558 2014-06-07 00:19:00 A manual? You don't have to worry about speed cameras, it's the roadside artists doing oil paintings that'll get you ;)

(Don't tell anyone, I prefer manual too. They are much better at passing petrol pumps.)

1376559 2014-06-07 05:47:00 And you could add
Overseas drivers
Anyone over 70
Anyone on drugs
The guys that race along our roads at really high speeds in their lunch hours
