379600 2005-08-09 09:40:00 This old comp I've got has got a 'Matrix' splash screen that covers up the POST screens so I can't identify the RAM which I want to do so I can get some more of the same type. (I've got few boxes in the shed might be compatible.)

I've had a good look through "my computer" (win 98) but can't find it anywhere. Where do I remove these things?

TIA. mark c

379601 2005-08-09 09:43:00 If it appears on the post screen, it wont be on the computer, it'll be an option in the BIOS. Speedy Gonzales (78)
379602 2005-08-09 09:57:00 Everest Home Edition should identify your RAM speed as well.

POST normally only shows the RAM count, not type.

379603 2005-08-09 10:07:00 Thanks very much Speedy and Jen. I'll have a look in the BIOS. Seems wierd to me you can't identify your RAM w/out a third party program. mark c (247)
379604 2005-08-09 10:20:00 BIOS splash screens are typical of name-branded computers... eg Compaq or Dell etc. What's yours? Greg (193)
379605 2005-08-09 10:33:00 CompuGear Greg. And on the CD reader it says Diamond Drive. Can't find anything in the BIOS. This was a teen boy's comp, and I suspect he put the "Matrix" splash screens on. Any tips anyone about where in the BIOS I can remove it/them. It's AMI and I haven't got the manual. Then I'll get Everest or Belarc Advisor ( which I've used before).

379606 2005-08-09 10:52:00 You cant put it / change whats on the post screen, unless its like the logo for windows, and he replaced the logo bit with something else. (Well unless its a mobo like an ASUS, which will let u change the logo).

BUT that would appear after the post screen. The option might be under the boot menu in the BIOS.

Something like full screen logo in the BIOS.

379607 2005-08-09 11:33:00 Darn drat and carry on, couldn't find anything remotely like it in the AMI BIOS. Thanks for all the help. I think for the moment I'll just concentrate on identifying the RAM and upgrade that. Cheers.

(But I will keep tinkering around in the BIOS). :) Will let you all know...............m

379608 2005-08-09 14:04:00 This is much more difficult than I thought . I've spent all the time between this post and the last one in this thread on it and haven't got anywhere . Well, haven't made any progress, apart from checking out lots of sites . It's not really a big deal but I am surprised how little info there is for getting rid of startup splash screens .

This old comp I've got is from a friend's daughter's ex-flatmate and it was full of all sorts of crudware and the mouse was haemorraging with dirt and I thought he must've been a cyberdunce but somehow he ( or OK someone else) has cemented this damn Matrix splashware into startup before windows starts
(thanks speedy) .

Now it's got me irritated and puzzled . Just FYI . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . m

And for the RAM, just pull it out carry it to the shop and ask for more like this only bigger.
