2005-08-11 11:44:00 | Speedy The router was configured by an outside person . To explain; if the 1 . machine is connected to the internet it works fine on th 2 . machine; mail and net surfing! It is just being able to get on the net from the second machine . Also file sharing is ok . Is that actually possible to force dial-up from the 2 . machine?  Gion

2005-08-11 11:48:00 | Go to you Dial up connection, rick click and go properties. Under advanced ther should be an option to "allow other computers to control this connection" or someting to that affect. Enable this and then try. This should make the number 1 machine dial when not connected and the request has come from number 2 PC. How you get to the option above might vary a little as I am going by memory and Win 2000 might be a little different but the basics are the same.

2005-08-11 11:50:00 | Umm you SHOULD be able to get on the net, without the 1st pc being on. With the router. Thats the point of having a router isnt it? Umm for the gateway on PC 2 type in 192.168.1.1 This is for the router (I think), then see if the networked pc gets on the net without the main pc being on. Umm if this is ticked (allow other computers to control this connection), how can it dial when the main PC is off? I think this is what Gion is trying to do.

2005-08-11 11:53:00 | if i understand correctly your only running dailup which will only be from pc 1. therefore pc 1. must be turned on and connected before pc 2 to get net access. as far as forceing pc 1 to dailup when pc 2 requires net, it depends a bit if your useing a proxy or windows ICS. there is a neat prog call RDU (made by twiga ??) which can let pc 2 make pc 1 dail up.

From what I read they are on dialup and only have the router for future requirements if and when they go to broadband. I read this as the router is wireless AP. If PC 2 can access net when PC 1 is on it is only a matter of the settings in my other post. |

2005-08-11 11:59:00 | tweak'y What you suggest is right and that's what I need. We are on dial up, have a wireless router for our network and like to access the internet from no2 with no1 running (but not necessarily online) Does that sound to difficult? Gion
