380132 2005-08-10 20:08:00 When you are in a word program like open office or MS word and you go to open a document,
A window appears,

Along the top is icons buttons for,
Up one level
View desktop
Create new folder
List
Detail

each time this window opens it always opens in "list" how do you get it so it defaults to "details" I am always clicking the "Details" button and I am always getting ******* off with it, and thats ******* in capitals.

380133 2005-08-10 20:13:00 Which version of Office are you using?

There should be a "VIEWS" button on the far right hand side in the same row as the "level up" button. Click that to give you the "DETAILS" view option.

I'm not sure if you can setup Windows Explorer to always display the "DETAILS" view...

cheers

380134 2005-08-10 20:27:00 Thank you for your fast response

it should not matter, I just quickly tryed MS Paint (from Windose 98) and went file -> open and the same window comes up in ******** "List".

I just find it so much easyer to scroll down the list in Details.

380135 2005-08-10 21:31:00 It is a Windows rather than Office "feature". I am pretty sure that this question came up not so long ago and if I remember correctly there was no answer to it. It annoys me as well as I also far prefer the details view.

There could be a registry hack to make it display the details view as there are hacks for other options in the Open dialogue window. Will have to have a sniff around.

380136 2005-08-10 22:02:00 If I open a document within Word (Office 2000) by going File, Open then the view defaults to Details showing Size, Type and Modified. However, I also have Explorer set to show Details in all Folders. Perhaps Office takes on the same appearance as whatever you have Explorer set to do.

380137 2005-08-10 22:09:00 Hmmm... you are right about that, Oxie. I don't usually use the Open dialogue box in Office so hadn't taken too much notice but the Details view does stick in my Office XP. Doesn't in other programs though, unfortunately. FoxyMX (5)
380138 2005-08-15 14:32:00 It seems the question I ask is over the "Dialog box" there seems to be a bit of confusion other people seem to think I am talking about "Windows Explorer"

Just to use MS paint in windows 98se as a example, there is a number of "Dialog box" 's you can bring up
(1) open
(2) save as
(3) paste from

they all default to "list" option, it seems using google a lot of people prefer the "details" option.

380139 2005-08-15 14:42:00 ..... and going to
www.cit.cornell.edu
you can see a "save as" "Dialog box" as you can see it is in the "list" option just near the question mark at the top right corner.

380140 2005-08-16 00:50:00 As far as I know, the list view is the default setting for those viewers and there is no way I can think of that allows users to permanently change that.

Sorry I couldn't bring better news.....
