379730 2005-08-09 12:14:00 I have set alternative paths to my preferred folders, but every now and then some docile program opts to play safe and dumps pictures into the My Pictures folder or documents into the My documents folder and I have to go looking for them.

If deleted they just reappear next time I boot, and renaming My Documents.DLL also brings up a restored file next boot. Google didn't help, so I guess it is a registry hack or some other adventurous activity that will be needed to put granny MS to sleep.

They even found a "Documents" folder several layers deep on my D: drive and installed themselves there as well!!

OS is W2K, any ideas?

Cheers

379732 2005-08-09 12:42:00 There's a few how to's in here (www.google.co.nz) Billy. I only checked the first one and it seemed to be going in the right direction and others looked to have the right headings so, choose your poison.

It wouldn't happen to be Acrobat Reader that is a little slow on the uptake would it? That's the one that gets me.

Your probaly right zqwerty. Xsetup also alows you to nominate any folders (or create them) without having to delve into the registry. There are lots of other neat tricks and handy shortcuts in Xsetup.

379734 2005-08-09 18:21:00 I read something about this a few weeks ago. I cant remember the exact solution or where I read it, but whatever you had to do had to be done in safe mode. I'll have another look for the info. 4bes (2848)

Description of My eBooks folder and it's removal instructions

windowsxp.mvps.org

To remove the my documents folder
Start -> Run -> cmd -> OK -> type "regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll" -> hit Enter -> Click OK to the confirmation box.

You can then delete these folders and they "should" not be re-created afterwards. Works for xp so should do for w2000
