379719 2005-08-09 06:18:00 what is the max frames per second a pac game can go. For example, games like doom3 running on the best agp card on the market. what will be its max fps. Please help. polo (6383)
379720 2005-08-09 06:53:00 1. It depends on your CPU, as well, mostly as resolution and graphic settings
2. see example doom 3 bench (www.extremetech.com)
3. Best AGP card would arguely be GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB
Best PCI Express is GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB PCI Express

There are no real limits on a PC but bear in mind:

a) You (as in human vision) really can't notice anything better than 60 frames per sec (fps)
b) You don't really want to have the frame rate greater than you vertical refresh rate of your monitor (maybe 60 fps for LCDs, 85 for CRTs) or you see "screen tearing"
c) Playing at a low resolution like 800 by 600 (even 1024 by 768 these days) is a poor gaming experience.
d) I'll think you are mad if you spend $1000 on a graphics card

379721 2005-08-09 08:05:00 Your eyes adjust to whatever they are viewing and can tell the difference between 50 and 100 fps or 100 to 200 fps, our eyes aren't wired up like a monitor and all the numbers you see thrown around are bullcrap based on ignorance.

If it was true areoplanes would be invisible to us in flight,as would snowflakes.

I did have a scientific study bookmarked at one point that covered it all,and I probally posted it here years ago, I shall see what I can drag up....

Drivel. Whats so great about having super high res? So everything is all small and squinty?

And I spent $922 on a graphics card so that must make me mostly mad. Hahaha, but HAPPY.

379724 2005-08-09 11:54:00 One thing I haven't really fully understood is: Is there any point in having a gaming FPS (for example) set higher than your monitor refresh rate? Are those who boast 100+ FPS on ultra-high resolution wasting their breath if monitor is running at 85Hz? Jester (13)

It would appear to me that you are $78.00 short of being mad.

So you are not mad yet. :-)

I'm $200 over the totally mad threshold :dogeye: :stare: :stare: :stare:
I only bought it because it was guarantied not to come with FBI/CIA/NSA tracking features.

Well for the record in Doom3 using the timedemo running at 1078*768,ultra quality, 4x AA I'm running around 65fps. But my mobo/CPU/Ram is slowing me down

So you are not mad yet. :-)You must take into consideration that she probally got it wholesale, the retail was more likley over the $1000 madness barrier.
Take into account this quote:
Drivel. We can clearly see here she is talking in drivel, so must be completly mad.

Actually I bought it retail. From PCTronix. hehe. At the time there was a sudden shrortage. All my suppliers (apart from the very expensive ASUS) had a 3 week ETA.
So ....retail.
Same with my 5.1 speakers I got. After dithering for ages and reviewing models, I discovered my choice was now end of line and no stock - so found a little shop somewhere and got it (clearance) retail.
Its not a huge markup so what the heck...
