| 380731 | 2005-08-13 09:22:00 | We are having problems opening Word2000 on our computer. We have had no trouble doing this up until about 10 days ago. Our whole computer jams up when we try to open up Word2000 directly or an existing Word Document. Sometimes when trying to open Word, a blue screen will appear with the message: "Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 018F:BFF9DFFF. The current application will be terminated. Press any key to continue - although when a key is pressed the same screen appears again" Other times when trying to open Word, we have to resort to pressing the reset button to restart the computer. All other MSOffice programmes (Excel, Publisher etc) are running normally, and we have done a virus check using AntiVir Software. This is very frustrating as there are a lot of documents we cannot open at present, if anyone can help we would very much appreciate it. |

| 380732 | 2005-08-13 09:42:00 | Try the easy fix first. Locate all files with the name "normal.dot" and rename them to "normal.old". Ignore any warning messages. They are system files so you need to have the viewing of system and hidden files enabled. Do this using Search, Woord must not be running at the time (it will not anyway by the sound of it) A corrupt "normal.dot" file can cause this, its the default template that is loaded whenever Word starts. If none is found, a new clean one is created. All that is lost is any special settings as to fonts and tabes etc on default documents, you would need to reapply them. Most people only use the default settings anyway. If that does not work, then uninstall Word and Reinstall it from the original CD. Make sure you backup (using Windows Explorer) all your important documents anyway, that goes without saying. |

If there are then delete both files, this won't harm your word doc.Make sure you restart your computer and you should be right. | skoob (8616) | ||
