380553 2005-08-12 10:59:00 Are you changing the bootdisk to cd?? Have u got a cd?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
380554 2005-08-12 11:03:00 What OS originally resided on the hard drive? Linux or Windows? That error can be associated with GRUB the Linux boot loader when the disk geometry is being reported incorrectly. Jen (38)
380555 2005-08-12 11:03:00 I can boot from floppy, fdisk and format drive, copy system files and initiate setup from C drive but when it reboots, comes up with error message. gherty (8709)

If you are trying to only get Windows on this PC - I'd wipe all the partitions and recreate them.
ARe you using Win98 FDisk? It may not be finding the linux partition and deleting it.

380558 2005-08-12 23:28:00 I think pctek is right. That is the error one can get when trying to install Windows 9.x on a HDD which has had Linux previously. Fdisk cannot remove one linux partition.
There are several old threads about this on PF1.

The DOS program pqmagict.exe added to a DOS boot disk will remove the non-DOS partition ok, and then the Windows install can proceed.

The big problem is that pqmagict.exe comes or came on the Partition Magic CD, probably only the earlier versions, up to version 4 anyway. It was possible to download it from one or two educational sources, but not anymore :(

Maybe the Linux people can tell you how to remove the non dos partition using a Linux CD.

If all else fails personal message me with your email address and I could send you a tool to do the job.

380559 2005-08-13 03:37:00 If you boot an installation CD you should be able to use cfdisk to delete all (or some partitions). Don't make the Windows partition with the Linux tool, just leave the empty space and let Windows do it. It's always best to let an OS make its own partitions.. Graham L (2)
