380460 2005-08-12 05:01:00 Hey all,

Have just installed a new computer for a friend, and they want to continue using their HP 5100 Scanner, which according to HP's website is capable of working under XP.

XP has found the Scanner and installed it without a problem, however can someone explain how I am supposed to scan an image into the computer without scanning software.

HP seem to support PrecisionScan, but there is no option to download it from there website. Searches for PrecisionScan on the web have only turned up a MAC version.

Does anyone have any ideas of a TWAIN / Scan package that I could downlaod to use with the 5100.

Thanks in advance..

380461 2005-08-12 05:12:00 If you've got XP you can use XP's scanner and camera wizard. It's in start>programs> accessories> scanner and camera wizard.

The wizard should detect scanner and from there you can use it as normal.

you can also install the HP prescision scanning software if you've got it and use that instead.

380463 2005-08-12 05:22:00 Wouldnt something like Irfanview / one of the free gfx programs support it?

If it has a import -> twain / acquire option? If you want to scan something like a pic?

380464 2005-08-12 05:22:00 Just found the disc, it's 81MB just for the HP scanning software so might have to give that idea a miss! Shortcircuit (1666)
