381427 2005-08-15 08:22:00 Hi

We have just installed SP2 after having some problems with the computer. Thought it would be a good idea to update. Now Office xp says it doesn't have normal.dot and on startup looks for another .dot file (which it can't find). I am assuming this is the reason why we cannot save Word files.

The system has also become unstable, freezing a lot and some programs come up with "Invalid Picture" when double clicked.

We have everything up to date - spyware, anti-virus and firewall. Did an online housecall to no avail.

Any ideas please?

What program come up with Invalid picture?

Can you view pics in My computer, if the pics are on the hdd?

Don't uninstall SP2, PCtek doesnt know what he's talking about!

Get hijackthis and post a log here. Make a folder unzip the file into it, and run it, then scan and copy/paste the log here.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think I can uninstall SP2 anyway. Unfortunately I can't open Hijack this as it has that error, nor can I run spyware blaster. Word wont save and even games wont install.

Apparently this was a problem before installing SP2 - the reason SP2 has been installed was to get rid of the problem. I have done system restore but it didn't work. Word says about permission denied.

381431 2005-08-15 10:40:00 Is it mainly files with an .exe extension that has this problem? You could see whether your .exe's have lost their file associations. Try the EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files) (www.dougknox.com) reg file and see whether it helps. Jen (38)

Get this

www.simplysup.com

See if u can install / run it. If not try in safe mode.

Or go here

vil.nai.com download this and see if it runs

Or here

virusall.com And select an online scan site.
