381146 2005-08-15 03:44:00 Well ive been having this problem since i got my new computer about a month ago and i cant seem to figure it out... its media center edition with the cable port on the back of the comp... any ways When ever i try to watch tv on it, the processor usage percentage shoots up to %100 and the process that recieves the cable signal is about %40 of that? the process is called EhRecvr.exe and it goes crazy when i try to watch tv and usually imy comp freezes, ehome.exe used about %57 processor usage and the rest is used by random progs... any ways what causes my comp to freeze??? the stats of it are in my sig. it has a gig ram but 128 is used by graphics card... could the graphics card be hte problem because when i have the tv watching program open whether im watchin something i recorded or struggling to watch live tv when the screen saver comes on i have it set to 3d text and to display the time as the 3d text and theres this little box in the screen saver instead of where the text should be and it says soem hting along the lines of "unable to generate directx 3d text" with out the tv prog open the screen saver works fine... could it be a graphics card prob??? also could it be a ram prob with the tv thing cuz i checked how much of the page file was being used when i hit control alt delete and it said arounf 500 megs and ive seen it peak at 1.1 gigs vram which isnt that kinda high considering it has 800 somethin megs of ram availible???i have the page file set as 2 gigs

any ways if some one could help me any help would be appreatated (spelling?)

also i attached a pic of the cpu usage when the prog was running and when i closed it here (img210.imageshack.us)

381148 2005-08-15 04:24:00 You dont have a graphics card, so it cant be that.

A little research on google bought up lots of reviews, none were good.

I would if possible with Media Center, run msconfig then turn off everything apart from your resident virus shield. Test to see if it is more stable.

If it is not, work through slowly all the applications one at a time that may be hogging your system, takeing notes all the way, then post back with the application causing the problems.

381149 2005-08-16 03:31:00 well i closed all my norton stuff cuz i noticed it was kinda slowin stuff down and now my comp is running like twice as fast. should i just leave norton close or is htere some way to make it not hog so much? CorbinH (37)
381150 2005-08-16 04:21:00 First: Ditch Nortons - its a resource hog. Use some other anti-virus and firewall etc.

Second: You really need a graphics card. A separate graphics card as opposed to a chip built in to the MB. It can't cope with it. See if the board has an AGP slot so you can install one. If not, you're doomed.

From my limited experience this is good advice. Norton belongs to another age.

381153 2005-08-18 04:25:00 Good advice... First: Ditch Nortons - its a resource hog. Use some other anti-virus and firewall etc... but I would add that it took me several days to get rid of the last of it - if I did. Seemed to have its tentacles in to all sorts of corners. ;) Scouse (83)
