381105 2005-08-14 23:02:00 A computer that I have just cleaned up has an account setting in OE that I have never come across before and I am unable to download or send emails as it is.

The account settings are as follows:

Email address: businessname@businessname.co.nz

Server (incoming mail): 127.0.0.1
Server (outgoing mail): 127.0.0.1

Account name: businessname#mail.businessname.co.nz

As the computer's owner is not available until later on today it would be good if someone could confirm whether the above is normal or not.

381106 2005-08-14 23:09:00 It might be for a business, but incoming is usually pop and outgoing smtp.

127.0.0.1 means localhost, so really incoming and outgoing atm, are going nowhere.

Altho the program I use (Spampal) for Spam, the incoming is 127.0.0.1 as it needs to go thru Spampal, so it can detect / delete spam.

So those settings should be something like

pop.businessname.co.nz (or pop3.businessname.co.nz)
smtp.businessname.co.nz

It depends on how they've configured their email / server.

381107 2005-08-14 23:19:00 That's what I thought, Speedy but changing to pop . businessname . co . nz (or pop3 . businessname . co . nz) doesn't work either .

There is no spam blocking program installed .

Looks like I am just going to have to wait and ask the owner .

381108 2005-08-14 23:34:00 IIRC 127.0.0.1 was the correct pop3 settings on the email client settings used to divert mail through a very early version of NAV, but SMTP.isp.co.nz was still the settings for out going mail. personthingy (1670)
381109 2005-08-14 23:37:00 I fixed it. Changed the account name to business rather than businessname and incoming pop3 to mail.businessname.co.nz rather than pop.businessname.co.nz.

Inbox is currently filling up fast with over 100 messages coming.

Edit: I might have known... it's mostly spam.

Now that would make a lot of sense as I have removed an old NAV from it. Thanks for that personthingy.

Now for one very last minor niggle and I'm done...

*wonders what year the virus definitions on that version of NAV were last updated*

381112 2005-08-15 02:33:00 Actually they were updated last week but in true fashion Nortons suffered a classic meltdown and took goodness knows what with it .

Even though their subscription still had six months to run the owners requested that the NAV 2002 be replaced with a more up-to-date alternative .

381113 2005-08-15 06:28:00 127.0.0.1 in the incoming and outgoing mail servers are the correct and current settings if you are using AVG 7.xxx free edition antivirus email scanning with outlook express or incredimail as your mail client.
