382108 2005-08-18 18:35:00 When I re-installed Win XP I naturaly lost all my desktop icons.

I have MS Flight Sim in a separate partition and no icon for it. I tried copying the run icon from within win explorer but clicking on it produces the message."Can not find xxx.dll"
The only way I can start program now is to open explorer and click from there. Bit of a nuisance.

I tried to install the program over the old MS Flight but it will not do it.

.
So the file you are clicking on to run it - just copy it and then Paste SHortcut onto the desktop. If it hasn't got the right pic, do a change icon on it.

Right-click that icon, choose Create Shortcut then drag that onto your Desktop and/or onto your Start menu.

382111 2005-08-18 21:55:00 Thanks. it works.

Though I fail to see what the difference is between dragging and copying is.

382112 2005-08-19 02:49:00 The difference is that "dragging" is a move. The file system handles a move by just changing directory entries: the file stays where it is. It can only do this inside a disk or (partition). If the destination is on another disk, the file has to be copied. Graham L (2)
