| 381663 | 2005-08-16 09:10:00 | This nephew of mine has dropped his Dad's Toshiba laptop, Portege A100 and it is unbale to boot now . While booting, an "IDE error" appears on the top left corner of the screen . It is able to boot from CD and I was trying to reinstall Windows . Went as far as deleting the partitions but it halted at formatting the HDD . Error says "unable to detect harddisk! Why is it able to delete the partition but unable to find the HDD? I am suspecting the HDD has died and maybe should replace a new one . Turned the Laptop over, but couldn't find a single screw where I can unscrew and open up the back cover . How easy (or difficult) it is to repair a laptop computer? Cheers |

It may have just come loose - look up the manual for that modl on their website - it will show you where the drive is located - usually a cover underneath hides it - it might be the cable has come loose from the board. |
