382052 2005-08-18 08:38:00 The best way to do it is to connect your main router to your father's router, and connect both his computers & your mother's computer to router #2. His router will just be acting as an ordinary hub/switch, so disable DHCP on it (if it is enabled) & tell all the computers to connect to router #1.

You could also try plugging a cable from router#1 into the wan port on router#2, enable DHCP on both routers & set all the computers to automatically obtain an ip address. Should work in theory, never tried it myself. I know the first method works.

382053 2005-08-18 09:00:00 Sorry. thought you had a wired connection between router#1 & your dad's computer. Unless you get extra hardware, the only way to do it is bridge the 2 network adapters on your father's computer, or use internet connection sharing software. Not a nice way of doing it, but it won't cost you anything.

check out graphics.stanford.edu for configuring the win98 machines. That tells you how to get to all the options. I'm sure you can figure out what your settings need to be.

btw. in New Zealand, it is Mum, not Mom

382054 2005-08-19 00:12:00 thanks that link helped me and i bridged the wirreless connection on my dad's comp and the local area connection and the 1394 connection thing and both my dad's comp #1 and my dad's comp #2 were both connected to router #2... (my dads was connected to 1 and 2) so now im tryin to figure out how to configure the router to know that my dad's comp is supplying its internet? anyone know how? CorbinH (37)
382055 2005-08-19 00:28:00 Err 1394 is firewire not a network connection, as such.

Even tho it appears in My network places, as a network card.

So, I wouldnt bridge this with anything. You may have probs, using it later.

382056 2005-08-19 01:13:00 oh ok i was wonderin what the 1394 connection was so i just went ahead and bridged it... but does nayone know how to configure my router so it know that my dad's comp is the internet connection? maybe set the gateway and stuff on the router to my dads comp? CorbinH (37)
382057 2005-08-19 07:07:00 im tryin to figure out how to configure the router to know that my dad's comp is supplying its internet? anyone know how?

If you plug your dad's computer into the WAN port on the router (where you would usually plug the modem into) it should do it automatically (as long as DHCP is working on your dad's computer #1) . If you decide to go this route, you will have to tell the 2 computers to use the router as the gateway .

If you use the router as a plain old switch, plug all 3 computers into the main switch part & tell the 2 computers to use your dad's computer #1 as the gateway . The second option is a good fail safe . Hopefully it won't come to that .

382058 2005-08-20 02:17:00 well earlier i figured maybe turning the dhcp thing on the router off would help but now i cant access teh router settings page? ill try plugging my dads comp into the wan port and setting the default gateway on my mom's comp... should it say on my dads comp local internet connection not connected when i connect it to the wan port? cuz its connected to the wan port right now and it says locan area connection a cable is unplugged so maybe the comp is reading it wrong??? but ill try tellin my moms comp that the defualt gateway is my dad's comp's ip... i should post again in 5 minutes as to what happened CorbinH (37)
382059 2005-08-21 03:29:00 uhhhg i still havent figured it out... right now i have all 3 comps hoked up to client ports i have the 2 comp connected to the router with the router as the default gate way then i have my dads comp as the default gateway of the router? should this work? CorbinH (37)
