381714 2005-08-17 21:32:00 Beetle, I may have missed something, but when Avast first found the virus / Trojan, there should have been an option to delete it. That is what I normally do: delete or remove. I think once Delete was not an option so I had to put it in the Chest, so maybe that is what happened to you.

Yee gads, from your most recent post, looks like you are having a reall FUN FUN time....!! If you have any humour left (Beetle always does, right?!), I can give you some great advice about how to reformat and start over....!

381715 2005-08-17 22:16:00 Beetle, I would strongly suggest that you tell them to take it to the pink fluffy slipper shop now . You did really well yesterday with what you did but I think that PC is more sick than what meets the eye and you are getting in a bit over your head now .

It's not worth subjecting yourself to that lot's ingratitude through no fault of your own - get Mets to deal with it .

381716 2005-08-17 22:23:00 Hi Beetle. Bit late now, but I recommend no friends/relatives/old codgers free house calls. Any future problems they have can always be traced back to some change you made during a visit. I teach at SeniorNet and many of the old chooks are past masters at pointing the bone. Scouse (83)

381720 2005-08-18 03:21:00 The app they have installed for networking to Macs is munted, that will have to be removed then reinstalled, System files are munted, legit process are running the cpu at 100 percent when they should be idle, Virus activity has run rampent all over the system.Turning off processes, altering the host file and running amuck.

In general,Its not a good look.

381722 2005-08-18 03:32:00 Depends on if they want it done properly,or munted back together.

I can strip out whats broken and hand it back, but at the very least this means they will have to reload their network app and reconfigure their network.

And there is no garentee that futher damage to the system won't come to light as they make use of it.

Me thinks you may have to visit them and grab all the cd's they have......
